Mythology Summary

Varuna is the Vedic lord of the waters and of the cosmic oath, whose spies traverse the sky and whose noose catches the perjurer. Older than the gods he keeps the order with, he becomes in later tradition the god of the ocean and of the west.

Modern Practice

Varuna is called on before an oath and in matters of water and rain. His practice is the promise kept, and his offering is poured water at dusk.
