Mythology Summary

Agni is the Vedic fire, the mouth of the gods through whom every offering is carried, and the flame in the hearth and in the belly. He is the priest of the sacrifice and the sacrifice itself, and without him nothing reaches anyone.

Modern Practice

Agni is present at every offering and every meal: the first portion is his. His practice is the small fire kept and the offering actually made rather than intended.
