Malefic in every chart, and the one graha whose nature no phase or company changes.
Reading
The Sun is a krura (harsh) graha and a mild malefic: it burns what it touches, but because it is the karaka of the soul, the father and the king its severity is read as authority rather than as injury. It is the only graha that is never benefic by association.
Surya is the Sun, the atma-karaka and the graha of the self, the father, the king and authority. Its dignity decides the vitality of the body and the strength of the will, and a strong Sun is read as a person who can command. It is the graha of the 1st house and of the 10th, of the right eye and of the bones.
