Mythology Summary
Saturnus is the Roman god of sowing and of the golden age, who ruled Italy in the time before labour and whose festival, the Saturnalia, briefly turned the social order upside down. He is Kronos' Roman face and also the seed in the ground: time as the thing that buries and the thing that grows.
Modern Practice
Saturnus is called on at sowing, at the winter turning, and at the end of any long period of work. His practice is to keep the seed: what is put in the ground now is the year that has not happened yet.
