Dis Pater is the Roman god of the underworld and of the wealth beneath the earth — the name is a contraction of dives, 'rich' — whose name was used to avoid naming the dead. He is Pluto's Roman face and the deep earth that gives and keeps.
Modern Practice
Dis Pater is called on in death work, for buried wealth, and at the dark of the year. His practice is solemn and his offerings are placed in the ground rather than burned.
