Mythology Summary

Sol Invictus is the Unconquered Sun of the later empire, promoted by Aurelian and made the companion of the emperor, with a festival on 25 December that outlived the cult itself. He is the sun as public guarantee: the light that does not lose, adopted by whoever holds power.

Modern Practice

Sol Invictus is called on at the winter solstice for the return of the light, and by anyone who has to endure a long dark without yielding. His practice is daily and loyal rather than ecstatic.
