Mythology Summary

Hestia is the Greek goddess of the hearth, the first-born of the Olympians who gave up her throne to Dionysus and kept the centre of the house instead. She has almost no myths: her cult is a fire, a meal and the continuity of a household.

Modern Practice

Hestia is present at every meal and every beginning: the first and last offering of the day is hers. Her practice is unglamorous and constant, which is the whole of her teaching.
