Mythology Summary

Spenta Armaiti ('Holy Devotion' or 'Holy Piety') is the fourth of the Amesha Spentas and the one who is grammatically and mythically feminine; the Gathas and the later texts call her the daughter of Ahura Mazda (Yasna 45.4). In the Pahlavi tradition she is the earth itself, the guardian of the land, of fertility and of faithful care, and she is paired against the demon Naonhaithya. Her day is Sepandarmaz, the fifth day of the month, and the twelfth month, Spandarmad, carries her name.

Modern Practice

Honoured in the care of land and animals, in simple and faithful living, and in the tradition's festivals of the earth and of sowing; modern correspondence work uses her for grounding and devotion and for the ethics of tending rather than extracting.
