Mythology Summary

Baldur is the Norse god of light and beauty, invulnerable to everything except the mistletoe that Loki turned into a dart. His death is the first sign of Ragnarok, and his return is the first sign of the world after it — the god who comes back when everything else has ended.

Modern Practice

Baldur is called upon in grief, at Yule, and wherever an innocent loss has to be acknowledged rather than explained. He is a god of the light that goes away and comes back, and his practice is honest mourning with the return left in the story.
