Mythology Summary

Forseti is the son of Baldr and Nanna, and Gylfaginning 32 gives him the hall Glitnir, roofed with gold and silver, where he sits as judge: all who come to him with lawsuits go away reconciled, and he is the best of judges among gods and men. Grímnismál knows the hall and nothing else, and no narrative of him survives.

Modern Practice

Forseti is called before a mediation, a court date or a family argument that has to end: the practice is to state the dispute plainly, ask for a settlement rather than a victory, and then keep it. Oaths kept are his offering, and the working is finished only when the quarrel is.
