Mythology Summary

Amun is the hidden god of Thebes who becomes king of the Egyptian gods and is fused with the sun as Amun-Ra. His name means the hidden one, he has no visible image, and the tradition insists that he hears the petitions of the poor, which is why he was loved rather than merely obeyed.

Modern Practice

Amun is called on in silence and in matters of rule and creation, and his sanctuary at Karnak was approached through increasing darkness. His practice is the honest petition made without status.
