Mythology Summary
Mut is the Egyptian mother goddess of Thebes, consort of Amun and mother of Khonsu, and 'Lady of Isheru', the crescent lake at Karnak. She is shown as a woman wearing the double crown and the vulture headdress, and could also take the form of a lioness (as Mut-Sekhmet) or a cow. She is a goddess of motherhood, of the waters and of royal power, and the Theban triad of Amun, Mut and Khonsu was the state cult of the New Kingdom. The planetary and zodiacal values here are modern readings.
Modern Practice
Invoked for motherhood, the protection of families and sovereignty; the great mother figure of the Theban triad.
