Mythology Summary

Khshathra Vairya ('Desirable Dominion' or 'Wished-for Kingdom') is the third of the Amesha Spentas, the hypostasis of the good sovereignty that Ahura Mazda will establish at the renovation of the world. His creation in the later tradition is the metals, and some Pahlavi texts add the sky, which is imagined as a stone vault; the Bundahishn pairs him against the demon Saurva, the lie of misrule. His day is Shahrevar, the fourth day of the month, and the sixth month, Shahrivar, carries his name.

Modern Practice

Invoked for right rule, the ordering of a household or an institution, and the working of metals; modern correspondence work treats him as the patron of chosen sovereignty and of stewardship rather than seized power.
