Mythology Summary
Nefertem is the blue lotus that rose out of the primeval waters, the first sunlight and the fragrance of the flower, and the beautiful youth who is the son of Ptah and, in the Memphite triad, of Sekhmet - or of Bastet in other texts. He is shown as a young man with a lotus on his head, or lion-headed with a falcon and a lotus above him, and he is 'the lotus at the nose of Ra', the smell of the flower that revives the sun and the dead. He is a god of healing and of the perfumer's craft.
Modern Practice
Nefertem is called for healing that comes by sweetness rather than by force, and for any work of scent. The practice is the flower and the unguent offered in the morning, and the room left to smell of it.
