Mythology Summary

Ameretat ('Immortality' or 'Deathlessness', later Amurdad) is the Amesha Spenta paired with Haurvatat; the Gathas name the two together as the gift that awaits the righteous, and the later tradition makes Ameretat the lord of plants, as Haurvatat is lord of the waters. At the Frashegird, the renovation of the world, they are the powers by which the creation is restored to wholeness and death is undone. Her day is Amurdad, the seventh day of the month, and the fifth month, Amurdad, carries her name.

Modern Practice

Invoked for endurance, long life, the greening of land and the restoration of what has been cut down; modern practice pairs her with Haurvatat and treats the planting and tending of trees as her work.
