Mythology Summary
Tepeyollotl, Heart of the Mountain, is the jaguar of the cave and the earthquake, one of the aspects of Tezcatlipoca, shown in the Florentine Codex and the Codex Borgia with jaguar features and the smoking mirror. He is the darkness inside the hill, the roar that comes back off the rock, and the sun in its night journey under the earth. He is an aspect rather than a separate god, and the sources present him as a face of Tezcatlipoca turned toward the ground.
Modern Practice
Tepeyollotl is worked in caves and at mountains, in the underground of a place or a life, and in any work that requires listening to what answers back. As an aspect of Tezcatlipoca he is called within that relationship rather than as an independent patron.
