Reading

Guru is saumya and the greater benefic, and it is the one graha whose malefic potential is read as over-expansion rather than as injury: too much faith, too much food, too much promise. It protects whatever it aspects, which is why its aspect is one of the most sought in the chart.

Meaning

Guru, or Brihaspati, is Jupiter, the graha of dharma, wisdom, the teacher, children and law. It is the karaka of the 5th house and, with the Sun, of the 9th, so the two houses of the guru and of the disciple are both read from it. Its period is the longest but one in the Vimshottari cycle and is generally read as the most benign.
