Mythology Summary

Angrboda, the one who brings grief, is the giantess whom Gylfaginning 34 makes Loki's mate in Jotunheim and the mother of three: Fenrir, Jormungandr and Hel. Hyndluljod names her once as the mother of Fenrir by Loki; she has no myth of her own and no cult.

Modern Practice

Angrboda is not a goddess to be served but a figure to be acknowledged: modern practice names her when the work is about inherited damage and the children of a bad bargain, and the offering is the plain acknowledgement rather than a petition. She is a giantess, and the corpus does not turn her into a cult deity.
