Thrones (Aralim) — the choir of the sphere of Saturn, which this spirit shares with the intelligence of the same planet; the intelligence and the spirit are two faces of one sphere, not two choirs.
Zayin-Aleph-Zayin-Lamed, 7 + 1 + 7 + 30, summing to 45 like the intelligence's name. Lamed at 30 falls in the same Aiq Bekar chamber as gimel at 3, so it is seated in the cell of 3 and the line touches that cell twice. Agrippa's plate prints it beside the character of Saturn itself and the character of Agiel, under the caption for the spirit of Saturn.
The spirit is the spirit of the sphere 'to evil' — Agrippa's own polarity, in which the intelligence is the benevolent face of the planet and the spirit the malevolent one, not an independent demon with a jurisdiction of its own. In practice it is the addressee of the material side of Saturn's work: the table of Saturn engraved on lead with the planet unfortunate is said to hinder building, cast men down from honour and scatter an army, and that is the side the spirit serves. What it does, in short, is Saturn's own doing turned toward loss, delay and dissolution.
