Mythology Summary
Verdandi is the second of the three Norns who sit by the well Urdarbrunnr beneath Yggdrasil and 'lay down the fates' of people (Völuspá 20; Gylfaginning 15). Her name is the present participle of the verb verða, 'to become', so she is the one of the three whose tense is happening now, and the sources give her no story, no temple and no separate cult. The Norns are a collective, and Snorri adds that there are other norns besides these three, of different origins.
Modern Practice
Verdandi is the one to name when the work is the next right action: modern practice writes down what the moment actually contains, does one thing in it, and does not ask for the future. The offering is water from a well, and the discipline of the present tense.
