Mythology Summary

Sul, or Sulpae, is the Sumerian god of the bright planet and of the wild beasts and the flock, a protective figure who watches over herds and is invoked against the lion and the wolf. He is Jupiter seen from the desert: the brightest thing in the evening sky.

Modern Practice

Sul is called on at evening, by herders and by those keeping watch. His practice is the count made before dark and the light acknowledged rather than asked for.
