Mythology Summary

Epona is the Gaulish goddess of horses, adopted by Roman cavalry and given a shrine in every stable in the empire. She is the only Celtic deity with a festival in Rome, and she belongs to the horse rather than to the rider.

Modern Practice

Epona is called on before a journey, at a birth among animals, and in any stable. Her practice is the care of the animal first, and her offerings are the first of the fodder.
