Mythology Summary
Chalchiuhtlicue is the Aztec goddess of rivers, seas and birth, who presides over the day-sign and trecena of water and ended the fourth sun in a flood; she is the patroness of childbirth and of those who die in childbirth, though the steam bath (temazcal) belongs to Temazcalteci and Tlazolteotl rather than to her. She is water as the giver of life and the end of the world at once.
Modern Practice
Chalchiuhtlicue is called on at birth, at the naming bath and in any work with flowing water. Her practice is the bath and the blessing given with it.
