Samekh-Vav-Resh-Tav, 60 + 6 + 200 + 400, summing to 666 — the total of the Sun's square, and the only one of the fourteen names whose sum is that number. Two letters share a cell at the beginning of the trace, and the plate marks the doubled contact with a bump, so the character starts with a knot before it runs.
Office
Sorath is the Sun's malevolent face: the same luminary worked unfortunate, which Agrippa says makes a tyrant, proud, ambitious and unsatisfiable, and brings a man to an ill ending. That is the whole of its office in the source. The wealth of later legend around the name — Sorath as a solar demon, as a spirit of the number 666, as the adversary of the solar archangel — is modern and is not in Agrippa, who gives the name with no comment beyond the polarity.
