A note on this entry The rashi is counted from the fixed stars, not from the equinox: the ayanamsha is subtracted from the tropical longitude to give the rashi, and this is the single largest divergence between this system and the Western files. The signs themselves are the same twelve and their ids are owned by zodiac.json; what differs is the frame they are measured in, the rulers (Jyotish gives the outer planets no sign at all), and the use - there is no 'sun sign' reading in the tradition, and the ordinary Indian question 'what is your rashi?' asks for the Moon's sign, not the Sun's.

Sanskrit राशि
English the sign of the zodiac Meaning A rashi is one of the twelve signs of thirty degrees each, measured on the sidereal zodiac. Each rashi has a lord (one of the seven classical grahas only), an element (tattva), a gender, one of the three modalities (chara, sthira or dvishabhava) and a set of body parts and qualities that the classical texts describe at length.
