Meaning

Two bodies at the same declination, that is at the same distance from the celestial equator. The parallel is read much as a conjunction: the two bodies are said to act together, with the difference that they need not be near each other in longitude at all. The contra-parallel, with equal declination on opposite sides of the equator, is its counterpart and is read as an opposition.
