Nachash is the serpent of Genesis 3, and its 358 makes it the arithmetic twin of mashiach; Chabad reads this as the serpent's function inverted rather than abolished — the same power turned from accusation to healing, as in the brass serpent of Numbers 21. The same three letters also carry the verb 'to divine' or 'to practise divination', which is why the word sits at the junction of the snake and the soothsayer.
