Meaning

Four two-digit numbers that reduce to 4, 5, 7 and 1 and are held to carry a debt when a calculation passes through them on the way to its single digit. Thirteen is the debt of work and of the shortcut that avoids it, reduced to the four of structure. Fourteen is the debt of freedom misused, reduced to the five of change. Sixteen is the debt of the ego that mistakes itself for the whole, reduced to the seven of inner work. Nineteen is the debt of power used without regard for others, reduced to the one of self.

How It Appears

The debt is read where the unreduced sum is one of the four, not where the final digit is 4, 5, 7 or 1. A life path of 4 is not a karmic 13 unless the sum was 13 before reduction; the distinction is the whole doctrine and is the point most often lost in popular writing.
