Meaning
Chaturdashi is the fourteenth tithi and belongs to Rudra-Shiva. The fourteenth of the dark fortnight is Shivaratri, the night of Shiva, which makes the tithi one of the most important in the month and, as a Rikta tithi, one of the least used for worldly beginnings.
