Reduce the full birth date to one digit or a master number. Two methods are in use. The first adds every digit of the date at once (day, month and year together) and reduces the total. The second reduces the day and the month separately, reduces the year separately, adds the three results and reduces again. The two agree unless a master number appears in a component, for example a birth on the 29th, where 29 reduces to 11 and may be kept as 11 or cut to 2 before it is added.
The number of the whole life, and the one most modern practitioners read first. It is taken to describe the trajectory a person is on rather than the character they have: the lesson repeated across the life, the thing that keeps being asked. Where the expression number is about capacity, the life path is about direction.
