The 888 of the name is asserted in the Sibylline Oracles and is the most quoted isopsephy in the Christian tradition: three eights, the number of the ogdoad, the day after the seven. It is read against the 666 of the beast in Revelation, and the two together are the tradition's standing proof-text that names have numbers and numbers have meanings. The value is Greek only: the Hebrew Yeshua is 386, which is why the number belonged to the Greek-speaking church.
