Gulika is the upagraha derived from Saturn: divide the day from sunrise to sunset (or the night from sunset to sunrise) into eight parts, assign them to the grahas in weekday order beginning with the lord of the day, and take the ascendant rising at the start of Saturn's part. That degree is Gulika. It is the son of Saturn, and the most malefic of the upagrahas.
