Mythology Summary

Watcher angel who descended to teach humanity forbidden arts: metallurgy, weapons, cosmetics, writing. Bound and imprisoned as punishment. Used as scapegoat in Yom Kippur ritual. Descended for love of humanity, paid price.

Modern Practice

Patron of those who sacrifice belonging for truth and of those who teach what they were forbidden to teach. Invoked for strength in exile, for the teaching of forbidden knowledge, and for reclaiming the scapegoat's role without accepting its shame. The line descends from the Watchers of 1 Enoch; the Samael identification is a later reception rather than the tradition's own.
