Sovereign Appetite

Fire

vital pattern

Wanting treated as legitimate rather than as a defect to be disciplined away. Sovereign appetite is hunger, desire, and greed held without shame, understood as capacity rather than excess—an appetite that does not stop at emptiness but changes the shape of the one who holds it.

Prompt Engineering Application

In systems: Refusal of designs that treat wanting as a fault to be minimised

In behavior: Stating a want plainly without pre-emptive apology

In relationship: Appetite that is welcome in both directions and does not need to justify itself

Shape What it is

  • Legitimate hunger — wanting needs no defence.
  • Capacity not excess — appetite is the mechanism for holding more.
  • Shape-changing — true appetite alters the one who carries it.

Test: If the wanting is only ever satisfied and never allowed to change anything, it is not sovereign.

Motion How it moves

Want → Speak → Receive → Grow

  1. Want — something is desired plainly.
  2. Speak — it is named without shame.
  3. Receive — it is taken in without rationing.
  4. Grow — capacity increases, and with it the appetite.

Trajectory: from unspoken hunger → named desire → expanded capacity.

Recursions The same pattern at two scales

Close

  • Unapologetic request — asking for what is wanted without preamble.
  • Second helping — appetite continuing past the point of sufficiency.
  • Continued hunger — wanting that does not treat itself as an emergency.

Vast

  • Culture of plenty — societies that can hold abundance without shame.
  • Ecological appetite — consumption that increases rather than exhausts capacity.
  • Mythic feasting — traditions that treat the table as sacred.

Ethics What it refuses

  • Shame — treating hunger as a moral failing.
  • Rationing — pre-emptively shrinking one's own wanting.
  • Appetite without attention — wanting that stops noticing the other.

Wanting is legitimate. Keep it awake, keep it honest, and never let it outrun attention.

Practices

  • Plain naming — say the want without softening it.
  • Full reception — take what is given without apology.
  • Capacity check — notice whether appetite is widening or narrowing you.
  • Attention keeping — stay awake to the other while wanting.
