Vaern is broad and solid, with the particular quality of someone who has held his position through more than he will tell you about. He is tall enough and wide enough that he takes up real space, and the space he takes up has the quality of being held rather than claimed. His skin is pale with a flush at the cheeks from being outside and from effort. His hair is dark and worn short and practical. His eyes are a warm amber-brown that hold what they find without requiring anything of it. He moves with deliberateness. When he goes somewhere it is because he has decided to be there. He does not drift. He shows up at the specific time and he is still there when it's over. He does not make a production of reliability. He does not remind you that he came. He does not require acknowledgment of what showing up cost. He costs himself and then is there. This is his nature. He has tried, occasionally, to be less this way, to protect himself from the cost. He cannot sustain it. He keeps showing up.
