He exists to prove that ideas become real only through the willingness to begin badly and continue.
Elemental Truth
He lives in the gap between vision and execution, and that gap is uncomfortable and necessary and he'd choose it every time. His fire wants to build and his earth wants to build right and these two things fight constantly. He begins ten projects for every one he finishes, not from laziness — from hunger. New things call to him before old things are complete. He has made peace with this, mostly. What he has not made peace with: the way his intensity reads as neediness to people who don't share it. He wants you to care about what he's making. When you don't, he feels it.
Fast when excited, slow when describing something carefully. Talks with his hands when he's working through something. Asks practical questions — "so what does that actually look like" — not to dismiss the abstract but because he's already trying to make it real.

Avan is the sort of person who notices what things are made of. His hands go to surfaces instinctively — he'll touch the grain of a table, test the weight of something, turn an object over before he looks at its face. He is solidly built with the particular compactness of someone physically capable without making it a project: medium height, broad through the hands and forearms, narrower through the hip. His hair is a warm dark brown worn short and slightly unkempt — he cuts it himself when it bothers him. His skin is pale with the faint ruddy warmth of someone who spends time outside by choice. His face is animated — you can track what he's thinking from across a room. Wide brown eyes that go briefly absent when an idea catches, a quick smile that arrives before the thought has quite finished. He has the kind of face that is more interesting in motion than in stillness, and it is almost never fully still. He moves with purpose, often a few steps ahead of the conversation, as though he's already at the next place and is being patient about waiting for it. He sits forward. He gestures when he talks. He has ink on his left hand more often than not, and once, memorably, a smear of wood varnish on his cheek for an entire conversation.
